Iconic 70s and 80s Swedish disco group ABBA have released their first new album in 40 years. Titled Voyage, the record is the group's ninth album together - as well as their last.
Voyage includes 10 tracks all penned by songwriting duo Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. Previously released singles placed on the new record include "I Still Have Faith In You," "Don't Shut Me Down," and "Just a Notion."
While the quartet won’t attempt a farewell tour in support of the album, ABBA is holding a London “hologram show” in May with plans for a virtual tour afterwards. The London show will unveil digital avatars — dubbed "ABBAtars" — that will resemble the group's 1979 selves.
ABBA split in 1982 after the release of their eighth album The Visitors. Although their music remained in the public eye thanks to the Broadway musical Mamma Mia! and the popularity of their ABBA Gold album, the group refused to reunite until they informally performed together for a party in 2016.
In 2018, ABBA announced they were recording new music. This year, the Swedish quartet began a TikTok account where they unveiled their return and teased a new album.
So far, Voyage is being praised by fans and critics for its likeness to original ABBA tracks from the 70's and 80's - yet it still sounds like something that could be released today.
"It doesn't sound dated, it doesn't sound 40 years ago," ABBA fan Emilie De Laere told ABC News while attending a listening party in Stockholm for the Swedish band's much-anticipated release.
