Mötley Crüe played a secret – or mostly secret – club show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Monday night (May 6th). The legendary metal band teased the concert on social media under the moniker “1981” (the year they formed), and were met with a sold-out show.

The 12-song set was mostly filled with the band's most popular tracks, including “Looks That Kill,” “Shout at the Devil,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and “Kickstart My Heart.” As for other music, the band played its new single, “Dogs of War,” as well as a covers medley featuring songs by The Beatles, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Beastie Boys, and more.

Tickets to the club show sold out in five minutes when they went on sale last week, as fans quickly caught on "1981" was actually Mötley Crüe. The New York City gig followed a pair of shows in Atlantic City. The band's next shows will be a mix of headlining, festival, and state fair dates scheduled through mid October. You can find ticket information here.

<![CDATA[Camila Cabello Announces Fourth Studio Album, 'C, XOXO']]>https://live365.com/blog/camilla-cabello-announces-fourth-studio-album/663a3d965ba4e32ffdd797dfWed, 08 May 2024 13:51:53 GMT

Camila Cabello has announced her next album – it's titled C,XOXO and is due out June 28.

News of her fourth studio record follows the release of her March single, "I Luv It." The song is assisted by Playboi Carti, samples Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade,” and includes a Rihanna interpolation.

In a recent press release, Cabello stated, “Certain things in our human realm do make me feel like I’m in outer space, and the very rare few times where I’ve had incredible chemistry with someone is one of them. Part of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. It’s unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I LUV IT.”

There aren't too many details about C,XOXO yet, but the pop star did post the cover art on Instagram – which features a close-up shot of the “Havana” singer with her recently dyed blonde hair, licking a blue lollipop, and looking into the camera.

Cabello isn't the only former Fifth Harmony member with an album on the horizon. Normani is also set to release her debut studio album, Dopamine, soon. That project will arrive on June 14.

Cabello released her third album, Familia, in April 2022. The LP’s “Bam Bam” earned the pop artist a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards. She also collaborated on the Trolls Band Together soundtrack in support of her role as Viva in the animated film. On “It Takes Two,” Cabello sings along with Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.

<![CDATA[Dua Lipa Plays Surprise Show in New York City's Times Square]]>https://live365.com/blog/dua-lipa-plays-surprise-show-in-times-square-new-york/6638eb235ba4e32ffdd79748Tue, 07 May 2024 14:17:16 GMT

After finishing up her Saturday Night Live gig, Dua Lipa gave NYC locals one last chance to catch her before she was gone like Houdini. The pop star took to Times Square for a surprise pop-up gig on Sunday night (May 5).

Playing to a packed crowd from a boxy stage set up in the heart of the city, Dua went right into her first Radical Optimism single “Training Season.” Despite the rainy evening, Dua kept things lights, moving into "Houdini," and “Happy for You,” followed by her final selection, “Illusion.”

The Times Square show was definitely more stripped-back and chill than Lipa's typical performance style: which often features several background dancers and bold choreography. “Thank you for showing up. Thank you for braving the rain and the cold. I even saw you take your top off! It’s getting hot in here, innit?” she said to the crowd. The singer also gushed about her “unbelievable” week, which included the release of her album and, not for nothing, a visit that she dubbed “the most New York experience of all-time.”

Just 24 hours before, Dua led as host and performer on SNL, sharing the meaning behind the title of her third studio album during the monologue and then performing “Illusion” and “Happy for You” later in the show.

King Princess (real name: Mikaela Straus) has shared a new cover of Steely Dan’s Can’t Buy a Thrill classic “Dirty Work.”

The cover was created with the help of producers Robert Linvill and Slimdan. King Princess' rendition of the classic 70s tune was recorded for the new season of the show Hacks. Her cover appears at the end of this season’s second episode. It retains the same soulfulness as the original Steely Dan tune, but features King Princess' softer, wispier vocals instead.

Slipknot have announced a very special 2024 North American tour happening this summer. The nu metal band is also returning to its hometown music festival Knotfest Iowa.

Titled the Here Comes the Pain Tour, Slipknot begin their trek on August 6 with stops in Baltimore, New York, Toronto, Phoenix, Austin, and more cities. Knotfest Iowa on September 21 will be the band's final North American stop, with European dates scheduled through the end of 2024. Openers for select North America shows are Knocked Loose, Orbit Culture, and Vended.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of band’s self-titled album, their Knotfest festival set is billed as a one night only “unique set drawing heavily from their 1999 debut.”

“Every time I’ve walked onstage, it’s never been about how many people have been there because my culture, the maggots, always show up,” founding member Shawn “Clown” Crahan said in a statement. “But as we’ve grown as a band, we have had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them for massive ones. So we’re gonna make it more personal on the anniversary.… Just get ready to have your face kicked in, because we just do what we do, spread that maggot culture—that disease. And you’ve been infected.”

It's been 10 years since Meghan Trainor released her body positive, doo-wop inspired hit "All About That Bass." Trainor celebrated the 10th anniversary of her break-out song on Monday (April 29) by dropping in to see Kelly Clarkson on her daytime talk show.

Before the two pop stars launched into a Kellyoke of "All About That Bass," Clarkson noted the tune was the “best-selling song by a female artist of the previous decade. That’s insane! I feel like you need an Olympic medal for that!”

The two singers smiled and bopped their way through the feel-good lyrics. Clarkson added spot-on ad-libs and the women went into perfect harmony on the pre-chorus.

Trainor stuck around to chat as well, sharing how the song has become an anthem for fans in the years since its release. She also talked about her first tour in seven years and the logistics of traveling with her two young kids, with Clarkson warning that touring with children (and dogs) is a challenge.

Trainor recently announced her sixth studio album, Timeless, is due out on June 14 and dropped the T-Pain-featuring single "Been Like This." She's also announced the dates for her Timeless tour, slated to kick off in Cincinnati in September. You can find more information about the tour here.

A pre-sale for tour tickets will start tomorrow (April 30) at 10AM local time. Guyton will begin her tour in Nashville, Tennessee. She'll travel to cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington D.C., New York, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minneapolis, Toronto, and Boston before wrapping things up in Lexington, Kentucky on November 9. Guyton wrote “Scary Love” with Emma-Lee, producer Karen Kosowski, and Victoria Banks in tribute to her three-year-old son. In a press release, she talked about her love for her son and how it influenced her latest single.

“There’s so many types of love, but for parents who truly love their kids, there’s nothing we won’t do for them," she said. "That kind of love is so scary because your heart is literally outside of your body and you’re seeing your heart grow up and become somebody. All you want to do is protect this person - that’s the scariest love that you’ll ever experience.”

Guyton released her debut studio album, Remember Her Name, in September 2021. Before that, she released four EPs. She’s more recently shared songs including “Woman,” “I Still Pray,” and “Somethin’ Bout You.” It's unclear whether these new tunes are standalone singles or part of an upcoming sophomore album. So far, Guyton hasn't formally announced any future LPs.

“1:59” marks Normani’s return after a two-year break from releasing music. According to Genius, the Gunna team-up was teased by Normani on TikTok some time after revealing her album’s name and its cover art. The track sees Normani and Gunna going on a back-and-forth about reconnecting with a past lover and not being able to resist the attraction every time they come back.

Along with “1:59,” Normani has shared the release date for her album: June 14.

In a recent interview with Jasmine Fox-Suliaman for Who What Wear, Normani said, “The album feels like liberation, like a season of freedom. <![CDATA[The Black Dog Pub Swamped After Taylor Swift Namedrops It in New Song]]>https://live365.com/blog/the-black-dog-pub-swamped-after-taylor-swift-namedrops-it-in-new-song/662913ff513eb41ec8a119f8Thu, 25 Apr 2024 14:27:38 GMT

Taylor Swift released her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, last Friday (April 19). On the album is a song called "The Black Dog." Turns out, The Black Dog is a real pub in south London, and perceptive Swifties have been visiting the Vauxhall establishment in droves.

The lyrics "And your location / You forgot to turn it off / And so I watch as you walk / Into some bar called The Black Dog / And pierce new holes in my heart" appear in the first verse of the song. "The Black Dog" is the 17th track on the extended version of the record (titled The Tortured Poets Department: the Anthology).

Event manager Lily Bottomley described the Swifties' reaction as "amazing" and "overwhelmingly positive". Speaking to the BBC, Ms Bottomley revealed Swift had previously come to the pub herself and said the venue was now offering Swift-themed burgers and cocktails.

She said: "We're just loving it, it's been so fun. All of the attention has been pretty overwhelming but we can't be happier."

Check out our selection of free stations streaming Taylor Swift music at Live365.com.

Asked about the appeal of the pub to the global superstar, Ms Bottomley said: "The Black Dog is a beautiful neighbourhood pub. It's really small and really cosy so I can imagine the neighbourhood feel, the community, would appeal to her. Obviously, being as famous as she is [it's] maybe a nice break. We've had [the album] on non-stop on the pub. We've had singalongs from fans. It's been amazing."

Swifties have also boosted The Black Dog up in terms of Google searches. According to Affordable Seating, on April 19th, it received 1,429% more interest on Google than other iconic London attractions: including Big Ben, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Tower Bridge.

Since the release of Swift's new album, the pub has also changed their marketing to match the LP's theme. The Black Dog's Instagram bio now reads "home to tortured poets @taylorswift," and recent posts poke fun at the unexpected attention the pub has garnered overnight. One post in particular shows the bar's administration embarking on a mission to identify which partner Swift might have been referring to by frantically checking their security camera footage, prompting fans to share their theories.

Listen to "The Black Dog" and see some of the pub's Instagram posts below.

LOOKING FOR 100+ STATION OWNERS or LIVE365 SHOW HOSTS to be MUSIC REVIEWERS for MY PROPOSED BOOK

More on the topic in the heading in a moment, first to close the topic on syndicated radio shows. I've contacted 5 or 6 sites that distribute syndicated radio shows and only one got back to me. That site does not work with online radio stations and didn't have the answer to my question regarding what online stations need to have in order to be able to play the syndicated shows while staying DMCA compliant. As a reminder, here is the DMCA item I am referring to:

No Transmission of Bootleg Copies. The Webcaster must use Sound Recordings that are legally sold to the public or authorized for performance by the copyright owner of the Sound Recording and that are legally manufactured (with exception). Here is a link to the DMCA rules on Live365's site.

For now I am passing on doing a syndicated show although I may circle back to it at a later date using a promotional service where all stations that play the show are signed up with that service (free to radio stations) and download all the individual songs in the show (even if they don't upload them to their station's server).

Now onto the project I want to pursue. I've written about 20 books that are available on Amazon, mostly in the areas of work readiness and entrepreneurship. My full work readiness book is currently used in the only work readiness program in South Africa that offers continuing education credits. I also have one book for my station – Rock on Neon Radio's Top 1,000 Songs of All Time.

My vision for this book is to provide a music profile of each reviewer so that readers can find reviewers with similar tastes in music to find songs from indie and small-label artists that they might like. Each reviewer will listen to about 60 songs I select a month for four, maybe five months. There is no written review required. The reviewers will just give each song a rating (immediate favorite, highly recommended, recommended, above average, average, not my taste). Their page in the book will list the songs they recommend.

Besides being able to add published music reviewers to their credentials, each reviewer's page in the book will include a short write-up about their station/show, and information about their station/show including the station's web address, the phone app needed to listen to the station, how to listen on Alexa, their station's email address, and some of the station's featured artists.

In order for me to write the book I need the book to offer a value to readers. Therefore, I want a minimum of 100 reviewers and 175 different songs recommended across all reviewers. The book will ONLY include songs recommended. In order to have a page in the book the reviewer will have to listen and score all songs in the project.

The genre for the music is new wave, alternative rock, adult alternative, mainstream rock, folk-rock, and pop. Keep in mind new wave included other genres such as grunge, punk, techno, reggae and more. I will go by individual songs so artists who classify themselves in other genres such as metal, country, R&B, etc. could have songs in the project as well.

I would like to keep this “in the family” and just use people connected to Live365. However, if I don't get enough reviewers from Live365 stations/shows, I will open it up to people from other stations. My thought right now is to start the song review process in mid-June. There will be a survey for reviewers prior to starting mid-June to provide a “music profile” for each reviewer and to obtain the station information that will be included in the book.

If potentially interested in being a reviewer, please use the link below to answer a short 4 question survey to get on the list (just your contact info and what rock genres you play) → https://s.surveyplanet.com/zphjj38o

Thanks, and now onto the music.

“Saving Me” by Starlite & Campbell

Starlite & Campbell are husband and wife Suzy Starlite and Simon Campbell from Portugal. Their work is overtly political, based on their belief in democracy and a post-capitalist, sustainable future where social justice, inclusivity, and access to a basic income, education, and healthcare are universal.

“Magician” by The Mighty Bard

One of my favorite bands from the seventies is Uriah Heep and this song has a Uriah Heep feel to it. Even the album artwork and the song title give me that warm, throwback Uriah Heep feeling. This prog-rock band is from the U.K.

“End of the Run” by Debbie Harry

One of the best and underrated albums of the 80s was Blondie front-woman Debbie Harry's Def, Dumb & Blonde. Heck, the album didn't even crack Billboard's Top 100 in the U.S. While “I Want that Man,“,“Sweet and Low,” and some others charted, this album cut is my favorite.

“Hallowed Ground” by The Alarm

Another solid album from the eighties is Eye of the Hurricane by The Alarm with songs like “Rain in the Summertime,” “Rescue Me,” and “Presence of Love.” However, this haunting album cut is a favorite of mine. This band started as punk before becoming rock/new wave.

“Beyond the Pale” by The Mission (The Mission UK)

Known as The Mission in the UK and The Mission UK in the U.S.; this song did reach #32 in the U.K., but that is the only place it charted. This shows how new wave had harder edged songs and was not just the synth-pop many associate with that genre.

<![CDATA[Unreleased 1993 Johnny Cash Album Finally Gets Release Date]]>https://live365.com/blog/unreleased-1993-johnny-cash-album-finally-gets-release-date/6627fd98513eb41ec8a1197aWed, 24 Apr 2024 14:48:00 GMT

There ain't no grave that can hold Johnny Cash's body – or rather, his voice – down.

An unheard album created by the country legend is set to finally be released. It's all thanks to the late musician's son, John Carter Cash, as well as a team of fellow country musicians.

The album, Songwriter, was recorded all the way back in 1993, and will be released on June 28. Songwriter features 11 songs written solely by Cash over the course of his then-40-year-long career. He made the album at LSI Studios in Nashville during a period when he was working between contracts.

The LP was shelved until Cash's son, John Carter, and producer David “Fergie” Ferguson decided to finish it with a group of musicians who played with Cash – including Marty Stuart, Pete Abbott, the late Dave Roe, and others. Retaining Cash’s original vocals, John Carter and Ferguson built new arrangements for the songs.

On finishing the project, John Carter said, “The musicians that came in were just tracking with Dad, you know, recording with Dad, just as, in the case of Marty and Dave, they had many times before, so they knew his energies, his movements, and they let him be the guide. It was just playing with Johnny once again, and that’s what it was. That was the energy of the creation.”

Ahead of the album’s release, Cash’s estate shared the single “Well Alright." Songwriter will be available on digital, CD, and vinyl formats. You can pre-order it here.

Kid Cudi was a last-minute addition to the second weekend of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. However, the Man On The Moon artist had to cut his set short after he jumped from the stage and broke his foot.

Cudi addressed the incident on X later in the night: “Hey guys, so I broke my foot today at the show. 🤦🏾‍♂️ just leavin the hospital. Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy. I wanna thank u all for ur concerns and well wishes!! I love yall man. I heard yall still ragin when I was offstage. Made me smile big 🥹.”

Cudi was filling in for Vampire Weekend during the second weekend, performing a set at the Sahara tent yesterday (April 21). After the fall, Cudi was helped up by security guards who then walked him away to receive medical treatment.

Cudi’s most recent album was this year’s Insano, which featured guest appearances from A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, and more. He last performed at Coachella in 2019.

This year’s Coachella headliners were Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator, and Doja Cat. The first weekend of the festival also included a surprise appearance from Sky Ferreira.

<![CDATA[Understanding Radio Streaming Formats & Bitrates]]>https://live365.com/blog/understanding-radio-streaming-formats-bitrates/660c248f8c84d5f0447e77f6Tue, 09 Apr 2024 16:55:40 GMT

As a radio station owner, you’re faced with many choices, including what format and bitrate you want to stream in.

On one hand, the MP3 format is widely known and universally supported, but what about AAC (Advanced Audio Coding)? AAC is an audio coding standard for lossy digital audio compression, generally made for more complex audio. The successor of the MP3 format, it generally achieves the delivery of higher sound quality to listeners than MP3 at the same bitrate. Compared to its predecessors, the AAC format provides a strong combination of excellent sound quality, efficient compression, and broad compatibility.

As a broadcaster, you may want to stream using AAC format at a lower bitrate so that listeners experience higher quality audio no matter their location or network stability. Also, some directories only accept AAC streams – giving you no choice but to provide an AAC format stream to ensure your station is as widely accessible as possible.

You may choose to stream in MP3 or AAC, but you also have the option of the bitrate. A bitrate refers to the amount of audio data transferred each second, meaning a higher bitrate represents a better quality stream. You can stream from 32 kbps to 320 kbps – with 32 kbps being the lowest quality and 320 kbps being the highest quality, but requiring a much stronger listener connection. The bitrate directly impacts bandwidth consumption, requiring stronger network connections for higher bitrates. Since AAC generally achieves a higher sound quality, you can stream in AAC at a lower bitrate and still deliver a high-quality sound to your listeners (while transmitting less data).

Here are some examples of choosing your format to benefit both yourself and your listeners:

  • You have remote listeners that may have weaker network connections.
Stream in AAC at a lower bitrate and deliver high-quality audio no matter your listeners’ location or network stability. You’ll be using less data to send that stream to our servers and your listeners with weaker connections will experience the highest quality audio possible.
  • You have a music library of more complex audio with an audience of audiophiles.
Stream in AAC at a higher bitrate to deliver the most accurate, high-quality sound. Your listeners will have a comprehensive listening experience, hearing all the details of the tracks you play. Note though your listeners will need a stronger network connection as you increase the bitrate so make an informed decision on your bitrate based on your audience and specific needs.
  • You have a lofi or talk radio station.
Stream in MP3 or AAC at a lower bitrate and save bandwidth on both ends. Your listeners will enjoy your programming as it’s meant to be heard, without requiring a strong network connection with a lot of available bandwidth.

Customize your stream quality on any package.

Understanding Radio Streaming Formats & Bitrates

*Non-copyright packages include same codecs/bitrates as Broadcast packages.

Within the Live365 dashboard, you have the selection of format for file upload (AutoDJ and cloud scheduling), stream ingest (GoLive, LiveDJ, and Relay), as well as stream outputs. Broadcasters on packages Broadcast 2/Non-copyright 2 or higher, will have 2 stream URLs that can be provided to listeners – the MP3 stream as well as your customized AAC stream.

Looking to stream at higher bitrates?
