Charli XCX is back and has announced a new studio album titled CRASH. Set to be released March 18, 2022, it will be supported by an extensive North American and European tour next year.
Producers and collaborators on the record include Rina Sawayama (who is also going on tour soon), Oneohtrix Point Never, A. G. Cook, the 1975’s George Daniel, and Ariel Rechtshaid. In addition, Deaton Chris Anthony and Linus Wiklund produced “New Shapes” - a brand new single which features Charli's "demonically talented" friends Christine and the Queens and Caroline Polachek.
According to a press release, Charli XCX “possessed and persuaded” the illustrious list of guests using her "femme fatale powers and a multitude of dark spells and curses." She added: “They will all remain locked in my basement forever.”
“New Shapes” follows “Good Ones,” Charli XCX's September single, as well as the 2020 Christine and the Queens collaboration “Gone.” Charli also released her fourth album, How I’m Feeling Now, last year. Of CRASH, Charli noted in a press release: “This is the fifth and final album in my record deal…” She has not yet stated what she plans to do after the deal is over.
The English singer-songwriter has been keeping busy in 2021. She’s hopped on tracks with Joel Corry and Jax Jones (“Out Out”), Elio (the “Charger” remix), the 1975 and No Rome (“Spinning”), and Bladee and Mechatok (“Drama” remix). She also launched a BBC Sounds podcast called Charli XCX’s Best Song Ever.
As for Charli's tour, she'll kick things off on March 26 with a show in Oakland, California. She'll travel to cities like Portland, Los Angeles, Austin, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and Toronto before flying over to Dublin, Ireland in May. From there, she'll throw concerts in England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.
