ABBA Join TikTok & Tease Big News

Mamma Mia...legendary 70s and 80s' group ABBA has just joined TikTok! They've also teased some big news coming later this week.

The Swedish pop icons officially offered up their catalogue to the TikTok community after becoming the most-searched-for group without a dedicated profile. According to TikTok, the group’s music was the most requested from an act without an official account on the social media app.

Paul Hourican, TikTok’s head of music operations, said in a statement: “We are so excited to welcome Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid to TikTok, bringing their phenomenal music to fans both new and old around the world.”

ABBA – comprised of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad - uploaded their first video to TikTok on Sunday (August 29). It's a piano version of their 1976 hit "Dancing Queen" with the flashing titles: "ABBA now on TikTok! Follow us on @abba."

In a second upload, the group, who have been on hiatus for 39 years, teased their big news: the launch of a new experience called "ABBAVoyage."

“Thank you for waiting, the journey is about to begin. Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid,” the group captioned the brief intergalactic-esque visual that sees a dawn rising to reveal the date September 2. Grand violin music plays over the video. It all comes after ABBA teased their return with a Twitter post showing phases of an eclipse.

Last Thursday (August 26), ABBA launched a new social media channel to tease a forthcoming project called "Voyage." The website for "ABBAVoyage" states "the journey is about to begin" and instructs fans to sign up if they'd like to be the first to hear about the project.

Could "ABBAVoyage" be related to new music from the group? Most likely. In 2018, the group announced they were set to release their first new material in 35 years. Björn Ulvaeus promised earlier this year the Swedish group would “definitely” drop music at some point in 2021.

In other related ABBA TikTok news, this summer saw the rise of the #DancingQueenChallenge. It involved ABBA super fans trying to outdo each other by singing one of the group’s most cherished hits in a single breath. The challenge resulted in more than 160 million video views.
