Florence + The Machine have shared a new single, “Call Me Cruella.” It's a song from the soundtrack to the live-action 101 Dalmatians spin-off film Cruella - starring Emma Stone, to be released on Disney+ May 28.
Besides Florence + The Machine recording a new track, Moonlight and Succession composer Nicholas Britell handled Cruella's score. Other songs listed on the official movie soundtrack include "Whisper Whisper" by the Bee Gees, Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy," "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone, and "Come Together" by Ike & Tina Turner.
On singing for the movie, Florence Welch said in a press release:
“Some of the first songs I ever learned how to sing were Disney songs. And the villains often got the best numbers. So to help create and perform a song for Cruella is the fulfillment of a long held childhood dream. I’m so grateful to Nicholas Britell and Disney for allowing me so much creative freedom, and for trusting me with Cruella’s beautiful madness.”
This is the latest music news for Florence + The Machine since April, when it was announced the band's frontwoman and Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) would be working on the score for a Broadway Great Gatsby musical adaptation.
It is unclear whether Florence + The Machine will drop any more new music this year. Besides "Call Me Cruella," the group's last released single was 2020's "Light of Love," which was shared in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, their last album was 2018's High as Hope.
