Joni Mitchell is opening her vault this October with the first release in her new archival series, which is aptly titled the Joni Mitchell Archives.
The first installment, Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967), will collect five CDs featuring nearly six hours of unreleased material and various home, live, and radio performances from the years leading up to her 1968 debut Song to a Seagull. A 40-page booklet with unseen photos and new liner notes will also be included in the box set.
Over the next few years, more installments will be released, featuring rare content from different eras of her career. According to a press release, Mitchell has been "lending her vision and personal touch to every element of the project."
Two performances from the first collection will also be available separately as limited-edition vinyl LPs: her earliest-known recording, a 1963 set at a Saskatchewan radio station, and 1967 performance at the Canterbury House in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
