After a long three months of waiting, Taylor Swift has finally dropped her third music video from the Midnights album. The sensual new visual for "Lavender Haze" sees Swift waking up at 12am and playing with purple smoke, bathing in a pool of lavender, and partying it up with friends before entering an intergalactic koi pond.
Like with her previous two Midnights videos, Swift wrote and directed the plush, psychedelic visual for "Lavender Haze." Besides Taylor, the clip stars transgender actor and activist Laith Ashley de la Cruz as her lover.
Swift first showed off clips from the "Lavender Haze" visual within a teaser for upcoming Midnights music videos. Last night (January 27), she posted an Instagram reel with the caption and lyrics "Meet me at midnight." Like with Swift's previous two music videos for "Anti-Hero" and "Bejeweled," the visual for "Lavender Haze" was dropped at midnight.
“The Lavender Haze video is out now. There is lots of lavender. There is lots of haze,” Swift wrote after the visual was released. She continued, "There is my incredible costar [Laith Ashley de la Cruz] who I absolutely adored working with. This was the first video I wrote out of the 3 that have been released, and this one really helped me conceptualize the world and mood of Midnights, like a sultry sleepless 70’s fever dream. Hope you like it 😁"
Of course, the visual for “Lavender Haze” contains a classic Swift Easter egg. The new music video seems to hint that another video could be on the way; in the opening moments, the camera lingers on a record sleeve with the title “Mastermind” – another Midnights track.
Swift released Midnights, her 10th studio album, in October 2022. She announced her extensive Eras Tour in support of the record at the beginning of November, but, during Verified Fan pre-sales, Ticketmaster’s website collapsed under the overwhelming demand for tickets. The company then canceled the public onsale date for tickets. Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, are facing multiple lawsuits from Swift fans who felt that the companies manipulated the sales unfairly. The fiasco has prompted U.S. senators to investigate the practices of the ticketing company.
