It's been another big weekend for Taylor Swift! While performing in her old home of Nashville during her groundbreaking Eras Tour, she took the time to share another big project...and duet with fellow guitar-playing singer-songwriter Phoebe Bridgers.
First, Swift announced the next of her re-recorded albums, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) while on the stage during her Nashville stop. Later, Swift shared the news via a social media post. She indicated Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has six previously unreleased tracks on it and will drop July 7.
In her social media post, she wrote: "I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing...and living to speak about it."
Speak Now is Swift’s third album, featuring singles like “Mean,” “Ours,” “Sparks Fly,” and “The Story of Us.” Upon its 2010 release, the record sold more than a million copies its first week, setting a record for the highest number of sales by a solo female country artist. Swift's last "Taylor's Version" album was her re-cut of Red.
Speaking of Red (Taylor's Version), during Swift's first Nashville show on May 5, she surprised fans by bringing out Phoebe Bridgers to duet “Nothing New” from the record. Bridgers was featured on the official recording of the song, and will be the opening act on Swift's tours until May 27. Both artists played acoustic guitar while singing the song in unison.
After the duet, Bridgers brought out a guest of her own the following night: The 1975's Matthew Healy. Healy accompanied Bridgers on guitar; Bridgers’ boygenius bandmate Julien Baker also made an appearance. Later, the three (plus boygenius member Lucy Dacus) could be seen "Shaking It Off" while enjoying Swift's concert.
Bridgers has been a longtime, hardcore fan of Swift's. Back in March, Bridgers presented Swift with the Innovator Award at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards. During her introduction, she recalled discovering Swift on the country radio station with her mother and being moved by her songwriting.
“Taylor has always told the truth,” said Bridgers. “She’s written songs from exactly where she is. Her music shifted genre in the same way life does — in the same way being 16 is totally incomparable to being 18, 22, 25, 28. I’m grateful that I’ve grown up in a world with Taylor Swift in it. Or, ‘The World (Taylor’s Version).’”
