It's now been confirmed that in addition to Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, and Helen Mirren, pop star Dua Lipa will be part of the cast of Greta Gerwig's Barbie.
Lipa is set to make her acting debut in the movie, in which she plays a blue-haired mermaid. A promotional photo of Lipa in costume has just been unveiled, thus confirming her casting after months of rumors. Barbie isn't the only movie she's set to be a part of. In 2021, Lipa announced she’d make her acting debut in the spy thriller Argylle, but the picture has not been released yet.
Barbie will have its theatrical release on July 21. It will tell the story of a Barbie doll (Margot Robbie) who is expelled from Barbieland for being a less than perfect-looking doll. She then sets off for the human world to find true happiness. The film's first teaser trailer was released in December 2022, and a new teaser trailer has just dropped today (April 4).
Since she issued Future Nostalgia and its remix companion in 2020, Dua Lipa has collaborated on new material with Megan Thee Stallion and Calvin Harris. She embarked on a massive world tour to promote the album that concluded in November 2022. Last year, she was named as an honorary ambassador of Kosovo by the country's president. She also revealed in May her third studio album had been "half-written."
