Following a break from performing after the untimely death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters will be playing music again. The rock band and the Hawkins family have announced two upcoming tribute concerts in honor of the late drummer.
The shows commemorating Hawkins are set to take place September 3 at London’s Wembley Stadium and September 27 at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. The announcement promises “all-star rock and roll shows” from Hawkins’ friends and idols, with a full lineup to be announced at a later time.
Ahead of the concerts, Hawkins’ wife Alison released a lengthy public statement for the first time since the musician’s death. "As Taylor’s wife, and on behalf of our children, I want to share how much you meant to him and how dedicated he was to “knocking your socks off” during every performance," she stated. "Taylor was honored to be a part of the Foo Fighters and valued his dream role in the band every minute of his 25 years with them. We consider every band member and the extended Foo Fighters team our family."
Hawkins died in March at age 50 while in Bogotá, Colombia. At the time, he was touring with Foo Fighters, and the band was set to play Festival Estéreo Picnic. Although an official cause of death is still pending, a toxicology report has confirmed he had opioids, marijuana, and other psychoactive substances and medicines in his system at the time of death, according to the Attorney General of Colombia.
Tickets for the tribute concerts go on sale June 17. For more specific information about the concerts, visit Foo Fighters' official website.
