After releasing a combination of their early 2000s records - Kid A and Amnesiac - as KID A MNESIA, Radiohead are turning the joint album into a virtual experience.
Enter Kid A Mnesia Exhibition: a new video game to be released November 18. It can be downloaded for free on Mac, PC, and PlayStation 5 at Epic Games Store. It’s described as “an upside-down digital/analogue universe created from original artwork by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood and sound design by Nigel Godrich.”
The band originally planned the exhibition as a physical installation that would debut in London and potentially travel to major cities around the world. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, Radiohead teamed with video/computer artist and creative director Sean Evans, theatre set designer Christine Jones, interactive producer Matthew Davis, the studio Namethemachine, Arbitrarily Good Productions, and Epic Games Publishing.
Given Epic’s recent taste for interactive musical experiences (they are the publishers behind Fortnite's virtual concert events), it’s likely Kid A Mnesia: Exhibition will offer some sort of experiential new lens into Radiohead’s music.
So far, a new trailer has been released for the game. It shows off the characters, rooms, and breathtaking visuals that will be available to those who download the virtual exhibition.
