Live365's "Featured Spotlight Station" this week is Jukebox 92.7 - WEPQ! We spoke with Chip Douglas Mosley about their setup, what listeners can expect to hear, and the station's favorite songs. Check out the interview below!
What brought you to Live365?
Another Live365 broadcaster recommended the service to me.
What's your studio like?
I use RadioDJ and stream using Rocket Broadcaster Pro. I operate using an HP Computer, which I bought reconditioned. I have a Behringer Eurorack UBB1002 mixer with a microphone I bought for a camcorder. The entire setup cost less than $500, and my "studio" is located in my efficiency apartment.
What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?
Anyone that tunes in can expect a better variety of top 40 oldies with a deep library of favorites. My core library is from 1960-1979 and I go back as far as 1950 and as new as the 1990s. I also do a daily countdown of the top 6 songs from this date in a year in music history. I have features that include "Rewind" from Bob Taylor Productions - a look back at the people, places, things, and music from the past that shape our world today - and "Profile America" provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. We also stream "That Thing with Rich Appel" every Saturday night from 7 to 10pm, a nationally syndicated program. The station features news from Feature Story News 5 times a day, and local weather twice an hour around the clock for the Peoria, IL area, which is the home base for Jukebox 92.7.
What has been your favorite moment as a DJ/Station Manager so far?
Putting this station on the internet. I was in terrestrial radio for over 40 years, and after I retired, my ex-wife suggested I look into internet radio, which I originally thought would be out of my reach due to the cost. When I found RadioDJ, which is free software, I discovered I could do almost anything I had ever done with terrestrial automation, both mechanical and electronic, and put it all together. In fact, my biggest monthly expense is Live365, and I can afford that!
This station became my retirement project. Being able to put together a radio station the way I want it without any interference from owners or consultants has been a godsend. Programming what I want and finding out that people want to listen to what I do gives me a reason to get up every day!
What is the best concert you've ever attended, and why?
Neil Diamond. He put on a great show, played the music I love, and was kind enough to meet me backstage after the show...a thrill for a 17-year-old kid who wanted to be a disc jockey and play his music on the radio.
What artist (dead or alive) would you love to see live, but haven't had the chance to see?
Peter, Paul and Mary
We asked for some of the station's favorite songs. Here's what they had to say!
- Windy - The Association
- Shilo - Neil Diamond
- Abergavenny (Shannon) - Marty Wilde
- She's Gone - Daryl Hall & John Oates
- Almost anything by The Beatles
