Center Stage on Live365: Raid the Radio

Center Stage on Live365 this week is Raid the Radio – "All Hits, No Misses" – with a genre-hopping blend of dope beats. We spoke with the station manager Professor Ping about their history with radio, their station's programming, and we got some music recommendations. Check out the interview below!

What made you get started in radio?

I've been a DJ and involved in radio since college. I helped three stations get off the ground during COVID, so I decided to reach out to my friends, got them to select tracks, and launched Raid the Radio in March 2022.

What brought you to Live365?

I was very familiar with Centovacast, which is terrible. I liked the ease of use of Live365, and that Live365 pays royalties.

What's your favorite part about running your own radio station?

The ability to bring an always-varied daily set of amazing music to the public.

Tell us about your station's programming. What can listeners expect when they tune in to your station?

We're an indie station. Merge college radio programming with a pirate radio ethos, and you get Raid the Radio. Check out the station schedule here – we have specially-curated shows daily from 8am to midnight ET.

Name one artist that you play on your station that is underrated in your opinion.

Jean Grae

What's your favorite music memory/moment?

First concert: Seeing The Hooters open up for Loverboy.

Please list your top 5 or 10 songs, with a brief reason why each song made your list.

Personal favorites:

  • "Say Kids What Time Is It?" - Coldcut
It's the first all-sample song. And still holds up 40 years later. A banger.

  • "Windowlicker" - Aphex Twin
While the track is a terrific Aphex example, have you SEEN this video??

  • "Big Poppa" - The Notorious B.I.G.
Tremendous CREAM. The ultimate slow jam.

  • "All Caps" - Madvillain
The whole album is essential listening. Distilled into one track, it's this one.

  • "Live at Best Kept Secret 2018" - Khruangbin
A live performance, but what a fantastic performance by an even more fantastic trio!
