Diana Ross & Tame Impala Release New Song 'Turn Up the Sunshine'

An unexpected team-up in music has just occurred, and it's all thanks to Jack Antonoff. Diana Ross and Tame Impala join together on the new song "Turn Up the Sunshine," which was created for the upcoming Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack.

The movie's soundtrack, which is comprised of covers of 1970s hits, was produced and curated by Antonoff. The soundtrack, like the film, will be out July 1. In addition to Diana Ross and Tame Impala, it will feature St. Vincent, Thundercat, Phoebe Bridgers, Caroline Polachek, and more.

Notable songs or covers include Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" covered by Polachek, "Funkytown" by Lipps, "Fly Like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band, and more. Even the Minions themselves cover Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecilia.”

"Turn Up the Sunshine" features plenty of nostalgic 70s sounds. Ross even has a bit of rapping in the tune. Kevin Parker's voice only appears on the bridge. "Let's do it all around the world / We gotta turn up the sunshine / We gotta turn up the sunshine / Think about it, all the boys and girls / You gotta turn up the sunshine / You gotta turn up the sunshine," Ross croons during every chorus.

In other Diana Ross and Tame Impala news, the former artist's first album in 15 years, Thank You, was shared last year. One of the songs on the record was Jack Antonoff-produced. Tame Impala’s most recent album was 2020’s The Slow Rush, which was recently given the deluxe box set treatment. They also finished up a tour back in March.
