John Legend is getting fans ready for summer with a new single titled "Dope." The song features J.I.D. and is the first track from his upcoming eighth studio album.
“Dope” was written by Legend, Charlie Puth, Ryan Tedder, and J.I.D, and produced by Ian Kirkpatrick and Tedder. It's a smooth and summery track that tells of Legend and J.I.D.'s addiction to the women they love. The track was also released alongside a retro-style lyric video.
“I’m so thrilled to be releasing new music,” Legend said in a statement. “The past year or so has been so exciting for me creatively. I have been writing and collaborating with some of the most talented people in music, and we have some great new material to share with the world. ‘Dope’ is one of my favorites. I love the energy of the song. I loved collaborating with my gifted co-writers and producers, and J.I.D is one of my favorite emerging artists in hip-hop. I hope the song can be a part of people’s soundtrack for this summer.”
The singer’s upcoming album will be the follow-up to 2020’s Bigger Love. No title or release date has been announced yet.
In related news, Legend has been performing in Las Vegas for his Love in Las Vegas residency. The next runs of his residency will be Aug. 5-20 and Oct. 14-29. You can find tickets here.
