John Legend has released his eighth album – the feature-packed Legend, which includes collabs with Rick Ross, Jazmine Sullivan, Ty Dolla $ign, and more.
Executive produced by Legend alongside OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, the double album features "an unapologetic spirit of sensuality and joy, informed by the full vulnerability of pain, praise and healing,” according to the artist.
The album pulls from Legend's life: ACT I takes from his bachelor days and the feeling of a Saturday night out, while ACT II draws from his life as a husband and father – evoking the feeling of a Sunday morning. Other artists on the record include Jhene Aiko, Muni Long, Jada Kingdom, Rapsody, and Ledisi.
“I’ve never used an aspect of my name as the title of an album," Legend said. "I had to earn that, to live up to it by delivering in the performance and the music. And this is me saying I’m proud of who I am, I’m confident in the work I’ve done, and I’m just going to declare it.”
The new album spans 24 songs and includes the previously-released singles “Honey” with Long, the summery tune “Dope” with rapper JID, and “All She Wanna Do” with Saweetie. Legend is the follow-up to 2020’s Bigger Love, and his first release with Republic Records.
In related news, Legend will appear at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 12 to perform “Pieces.” He’ll also support his new LP during the second leg of his Las Vegas residency, Love in Las Vegas, at The Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood, with a run of shows from Oct. 14-29.
