Jimi Hendrix’s 'Band of Gypsys' Set for 50th Anniversary Vinyl Reissue

Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys will be getting a vinyl reissue in March in honor of the live album's 50th anniversary.

Band of Gypsys, which was released in March 1970, captures two performances on New Year’s Day of that same year at New York’s Fillmore East. The shows, which were Hendrix's first performances without his band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, were recorded by engineer Wally Heider.

Janie Hendrix, President and CEO of Experience Hendrix, said in a statement, “This is more than the commemoration of an anniversary, that, of course, is something momentous, but it is also the celebration of a cathartic event in Jimi’s life… a sort of changing of the guards.”

The Eddie Kramer-mastered reissue will be available on 180-gram audiophile black vinyl, as well as limited-edition 180-gram cream, red, yellow, and green swirl vinyl. Also included in the reissue will be a replica concert poster and an eight-page booklet featuring live photos and an essay written by John McDermott.

The Band of Gypsys 50th Anniversary Reissue is due out March 27. Preorders are currently available here.
