Strawberry Fields, Popularized by The Beatles, Opens to the Public For the First Time

Starting today, Sept. 14, Strawberry Fields in Liverpool, the Salvation Army grounds popularized by the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever,” is open to the public for the first time ever.

According to the website, the site is now "home to an interactive visitor exhibition, community café, shop, calm garden spaces for spiritual reflection and - at its heart - a Steps to Work programme for young adults with learning disabilities and other barriers to employment." The new interactive exhibit showcases John Lennon’s early years and the Beatles.

It has been estimated that 60,000 tourists would visit the outside gates of the site annually, but now, visitors can roam the former children’s home garden freely.

The Victorian house on the site was torn down in 1973 and replaced by a new building that was shut down in 2005.
