The Who Announce First New Album in 13 Years 'WHO'
The Who have announced that they will be releasing their first new album in 13 years on Nov. 22 via Polydor Records. They also released the first single from the album, “Ball and Chain.”
Entitled WHO, the eleven-track album doesn't have a theme, concept, nor story, but rather tackles a variety of subjects, including “the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory, and ‘an old rock star that has lost his marbles’.”
“I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973,” singer Roger Daltrey said in a statement. “Pete hasn’t lost it. He’s still a fabulous songwriter, and he’s still got that cutting edge.”
The album was primarily recorded in London and Los Angeles during the spring and summer of 2019 with all of the songs written in 2018. Pete Townshend and D. Sardy co-produced the album with vocal production by Dave Eringa.
Artist Sir Peter Blake, a longtime friend of the band, created the artwork for the album. The album is currently available to preorder. Those that preorder the album by 4pm on Tuesday, Sept. 17 will have access to a exclusive presale for The Who’s 2020 UK tour.
