Shania Twain is embracing being in love in her new song "Waking Up Dreaming," which was released today (September 23). The track marks Twain's first new song in five years.
The song is also Twain's first work under her new recording contract with Republic Nashville. "Waking Up Dreaming" finds Twain embracing her pop side, while still offering the signature Shania Twain sound she's become known for. “Let’s start waking up dreaming/And dress up crazy like superstars,” she sings.
The song also comes with a brand new music video. Directed by Isaac Rentz, the visual has an 80s-inspired aesthetic and features Twain and some friends putting on hair-metal wigs and wild makeup and fashion for a rock 'n' roll show.
Twain's last new music release was her 2017 album Now. Since then, she played a Las Vegas residency at the Zappos Theater in Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino. In July, the Netflix documentary Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl was released alongside an album featuring her best work. Additionally, Twain received a nomination for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame 2022 Class back in June.
