After teasing her next project with mysterious billboards and intriguing social media updates, Adele has finally confirmed the release of her new album, 30.
With a title following in the format of her other three albums - 19, 21, and 25 – the Columbia release is set to drop November 19. The powerhouse British singer has been teasing the project's lead single, "Easy on Me," for the last week, sharing some of the music video as well as playing a bit of the song over the weekend on Instagram Live. The single will officially be released this Friday (October 15).
The social media announcement comes with a lengthy note from the artist. “I’ve learned a lot of blistering truths about myself along the way,” it reads. “I’ve shed many layers but also wrapped myself if new ones. Discovered genuinely useful and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I’ve finally found my feeling again. I’d go so far as to say that I’ve never felt more peaceful in my life. And so, I’m ready to finally put this album out.”
“I feel like this album is self-destruction,” Adele told British Vogue’s Giles Hattersley in a recent interview, “then self-reflection and then sort of self-redemption. But I feel ready. I really want people to hear my side of the story this time.”
Adele explained that while 30 is not a divorce album, the record addresses her split from Simon Konecki, partly for her son’s benefit. “I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness. It made him really unhappy sometimes. And that’s a real wound for me that I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to heal.”
Since 2017, Adele has mostly stayed out of the public eye. It wasn't until her 2020 SNL appearance fans received an update on her career. With H.E.R. as the musical guest, she only performed in sketches and didn’t sing (except for a sketch where she belted out her biggest hits). In her opening monologue, she explained she wasn’t finished with her next album just yet.
30 is the follow-up to Adele's previous critically-acclaimed album, 25. Adele took home Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for the record at the 2017 Grammy Awards. 25 also boasted the hit single “Hello,” which earned Adele Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
In other Adele news, the songstress was recently named the #6 most-played female artist in the U.K. this century, according to data from the PPL. She was one of the only homegrown artists to make the Top 10.
