Chvrches Announce Album & Tour Dates, Release Single 'How Not to Drown'

Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches is back with an upcoming album: Screen Violence. Their follow-up to 2018's Love Is Dead, the new project will be their fourth full-length studio album and is set to be released August 27 via Glassnote.

The album's title - Screen Violence - comes from a rejected name the band considered when they were first starting out. Chvrches talked to Apple Music's Zane Lowe about how they recycled the name for this album because of how it captures the prevalent digital communication used during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The band released the album's second single yesterday (June 2), called "How Not to Drown." It features Robert Smith of The Cure. Chvrches released Screen Violence's first single, "He Said She Said," back in April. In 2019, the trio also dropped "Death Stranding," which was made for Hideo Kojima's new video game of the same name.

Chvrches will support their new album with a 2021 North American tour. The tour will kick off November in Houston, Texas and conclude December in Los Angeles. Donna Missal will be the special guest. Before touring, the band will perform at the two-day virtual music festival Splendour in the Grass in July.

Additionally, the band revealed how they were able to collaborate with Robert Smith for "How Not to Drown." Apparently, it was an emotional moment for Martin Doherty.

"I wouldn't be in a band if it wasn't for Disintegration and Pornography," he told Zane Lowe, naming one of The Cure's most influential albums. "So when Robert got back to us and said that he was interested in collaborating, . . . We never truly thought that it would come to fruition. After it had gone quiet for a little while, we get this demo of the blue on Halloween, no less. From Robert. With him singing. And it was everything that we hoped it would be and more."

Screen Violence is available to pre-order here.
