Hayley Williams & Josh Farro Receive Songwriting Credits on Olivia Rodrigo's 'good 4 u'

Ever since it was released, fans of Olivia Rodrigo's "good 4 u" have compared the song to Paramore's early 2000s' hit "Misery Business." Now, two members of the band - frontwoman Hayley Williams and former guitarist Josh Farro - have received songwriting credits on the song from Rodrigo.

According to Billboard, the songwriting credits listing was changed Tuesday (August 24) on the website of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Williams reacted to the update on her Instagram Story, saying, "our publisher is wildin rn."

Prior to the song's May release, Rodrigo's and Paramore's teams had actually been in touch about the Sour song, sources say. “good 4 u” became Rodrigo’s second Hot 100 hit upon its release, following “drivers license,” which clocked in at No. 3 on this week’s Billboard chart.

Paramore receiving a credit on "good 4 u" follows the trend of Rodrigo acknowledging her influences' impact on her music. In July, she gave Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, and St. Vincent co-writing credits on "deja vu." It was an acknowledgement of the interpolation of Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer,” which Rodrigo admitted influenced the bridge of "deja vu." Swift and Antonoff were also credited as co-writers on Rodrigo’s “1 step forward, 3 steps back,” which takes influence from Swift’s “New Year’s Day.”

"good 4 u," as well as "deja vu" and "driver's license," were originally written by Rodrigo and producer-songwriter Daniel Nigro. “Misery Business,” released on Paramore’s breakthrough 2007 album Riot!, peaked at No. 26 on the Hot 100.

Paramore's last album was their 2017 new wave record After Laughter. With the new writing credits, Williams and Farro have just earned their first Hot 100 chart-topper as songwriters.
