Radiohead drummer Philip Selway has announced a new solo album. It's called Strange Dance and will be released February 24, 2023. To stir up fan anticipation, Selway has already shared the lead single of the record, “Check for Signs of Life.”
“One of the things I’ve liked about this record is it’s me as a 55-year-old not trying to hide that fact. It feels kind of unguarded rather than seeing that aging process as something that needs to be hidden,” Selway said in a statement. “I wanted it to have that space so if you’re listening to it, you can lose yourself in it. Almost like a refuge.”
Strange Dance is the third solo album in Selway’s discography, following his 2010 debut Familial and his sophomore LP Weatherhouse from 2014. The new album spans 10 tracks and includes collaborations with Hannah Peel, Adrian Utley of Portishead, Quinta, Marta Salogni, Valentina Magaletti, and Laura Moody.
As for "Check for Signs of Life", the slow and string-heavy single comes with a new lyric video. It's ultimately a tune about loneliness. "So let some daylight get in / Chеck for signs of life / Dust on everything / I say your name / It sounds different, now you're gone / Well, this life has changed and shaped us all / And this life has changed forevermore" Selway croons.
