Unseen Prince Images to Appear in Randee St. Nicholas Photo Book
Photographer-director Randee St. Nicholas is releasing a photo book entitled My Name Is Prince, which will feature previously unseen images of Prince.
After 25 years of collaboration, St. Nicholas has compiled shots of Prince on tour, at his home, and throughout his travels around the world. The 380-page book will collect many of those color and black-and-white photos.
Aside from the photos themselves, the book will feature St. Nicholas’ own behind-the-scenes stories and personal anecdotes. Throughout their time working together, St. Nicholas collaborated with Prince on his 1994 direct-to-video film, 3 Chains o’ Gold, and their 2008 photo book, 21 Nights.
Prince and St. Nicholas originally discussed creating a second book over a decade ago. They were unable to finish it before Prince’s death in 2016, but St. Nicholas was committed to the book's creation.
In an excerpt from the book, St. Nicholas writes of Prince, “I still expect him to call and give me an hour’s notice to jump on a plane or meet him somewhere and be ready to shoot. I guess like so many others I am not really ready to let him go. I have been haunted by the commitment we made to the book we originally set out to make 10 years ago, because I promised him we would follow through with our in-depth retrospective … and because I never want to let him down.”
My Name Is Prince is out Oct. 15 via Amistad.
