After announcing the project back in 2018, Dave Grohl and his mother Virginia's new docuseries From Cradle to Stage finally has a release date. The first episode airs on Paramount+ May 6 - just in time for Mother's Day. A new teaser has also been released.
The series is based on Virginia Hanlon Grohl's 2017 book From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars. Each episode will focus on one famous musician and the mother who raised them. More than that, the show will “explore each artists’ upbringing and the tools they received as a young talent to survive the turbulence of success.”
Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons and his mother, Christine Reynolds, will kick off the first episode of the show. Other guests include Pharrell and his mother Dr. Carolyn Williams, Miranda and Bev Lambert, Brandi and Teresa Carlile, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and his mother Mary, and Rush’s Geddy Lee with his mother Mary Weinrib.
On the show, Dave Grohl said in a press release:
“I believe that the relationship between a musician and their mother is so important because it’s the foundation of their understanding of love, which is surely every artist’s greatest muse. Having the opportunity to travel the country and tell the stories of these amazing women behind the curtain not only shed some light on the music that they inspired, but also made me appreciate the love that I was given from my own mother, my best friend. It goes without saying that we are all indebted to the women who have given us life. For without them, there would be no music.”
As for other Dave Grohl projects, his documentary What Drives Us was just picked up by Amazon's Coda Collection and will debut April 30. Grohl also recently collaborated with Mick Jagger on the song "Eazy Sleazy."
From Cradle To Stage marks new music-related content for Paramount+. Last month, the streaming service announced new reboots of classic MTV shows like Behind the Music, Unplugged, and Yo! MTV Raps!
