As previously reported, Daniel Radcliffe will be taking on the role of "Weird Al" Yankovic in an upcoming Roku Channel original biopic. On Tuesday (February 22), a picture of the actor donning the curly hair, glasses, Hawaiian shirt, and accordion was shared.
"Your first look at #WEIRD is here," Roku posted when revealing the photo, referencing the film's title, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.
Yankovic also posted the shot of Radcliffe in character, captioning the first look, "SHOOT DAY #8: It never fails - we’re trying to shoot a movie here, and this cosplayer weirdo tries to crash our set. Ugh! I mean, I love my fans, but…boundaries, people! Don’t worry, we had security throw him out. #WEIRDTheAlYankovicStory"
Talking about the movie, Radcliffe said, "Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly and I’m honored to finally share with the world the absolutely 100% unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life."
Besides being the subject of the film, Yankovic also serves as writer and producer. The film is directed by Eric Appel: who previously made a "Weird Al" Yankovic biopic trailer parody for Funny or Die back in 2013. Funny or Die and Tango will also be producing the updated version of the project. No release date for the film has been announced yet.
