Our 4th Annual That Christmas Channel Holiday Song Tournament has officially ended and the results are in!
Firstly, the winner of the tournament and the song that has officially been named Greatest Holiday Song of All Time is...
"Mary, Did You Know" by Clay Aiken
While the song has been in our tournament two times before, this is the first time "Mary, Did You Know” has ever even advanced past the first round!
This year, we started out with 32 holiday favorites submitted and voted on completely by you! Over the last two weeks, we narrowed it down to "Mary, Did You Know” by Clay Aiken and “Do You Hear What I Hear?” by Bing Crosby. The championship matchup ended up being a total landslide, with ”Mary, Did You Know” beating out “Do You Hear What I Hear?” by Bing Crosby by 38 votes.
Ultimately, this year both songs in the championship matchup saw their first time in the final four of our tournament. In fact, before this year, the closest either song had been to the championship was the Andy Williams’ version of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” coming in at number 5 for the most votes in our 2nd annual tournament back in 2019.
As for other tournament news, "Mary, Did You Know” actually beat out our former two-time champion "White Christmas" in the third round. "White Christmas" previously won our 3rd and 1st annual tournaments! It's worth noting, however, that "Mary, Did You Know” was our second top-suggested song for the tournament! So, it had a strong start from the beginning and carried that momentum throughout the tournament.
All in all, the top 8 songs in order of most votes are as follows:
- "Mary, Did You Know” - Clay Aiken
- "Do You Hear What I Hear?" - Bing Crosby
- "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" - Andy Williams
- "Carol of the Bells" - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" - Dean Martin
- "White Christmas" - Bing Crosby (our previous two-time winner!)
- "Sleigh Ride" - The Ronettes
- "O Holy Night" - Josh Groban
