The Beatles to Reissue Deluxe Anniversary Edition of 'Let It Be'

Yesterday (August 26) it was announced the Beatles' final studio album, Let It Be, will be getting the 50th anniversary deluxe edition treatment.

The new edition of the album follows on the heels of other recent deluxe releases for the Beatles. In 2019, Abbey Road, the Beatles' penultimate studio album, was also revived for a 50th anniversary edition.

Besides the reissue of Let It Be, more content around the album will be coming this fall. Peter Jackson’s documentary Get Back was originally intended to be a theatrical film about the Let It Be sessions. Now, it’s set to come out on Disney+. The docuseries will be released a month after the 50th anniversary deluxe edition is released, airing in three two-hour parts on Disney+ over Thanksgiving weekend: November 25, 26, and 27.

Of course, the expanded version of Let It Be will be available in several different formats and packages. Producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell put together a new mix in stereo, 5.1 surround DTS, and Dolby Atmos. It's all sourced from the original tapes. Rehearsal sounds and studio chat are also included.

The Super Deluxe edition, the most grandiose of the reissue options, comes as either a 4-LP/1-EP set or 5-CD/1 Blu-ray set. Both versions of the Super Deluxe edition come with a 105-page “scrapbook style” book featuring rare and previously unpublished photos by Ethan A. Russell and Linda McCartney as well as letters, session notes, handwritten lyrics, and more. The release will feature 27 previously unreleased session recordings, including the 14-song Get Back stereo LP mix engineer Glyn Johns put together in May of 1969 - before the Beatles scrapped plans for a raw and primarily live album.

Paul McCartney wrote a foreword for the Special Edition book. It reads:

"I had always thought the original film "Let It Be" was pretty sad as it dealt with the break-up of our band, but the new film shows the camaraderie and love the four of us had between us. It also shows the wonderful times we had together, and combined with the newly remastered "Let It Be" album, stands as a powerful reminder of this time. It’s how I want to remember The Beatles."

The special edition of Let It Be will be out October 15. You can pre-order the various options on the Beatles' official online store.
