Record Store Day was originally planned for April 18, and was then moved to June 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Record Store Day has announced that the annual event will take place later this year, with three different Saturdays serving as the days that the announced LPs will be released.
The "RSD Drops" will now take place on Aug. 29, Sept. 26, and Oct. 24, and Record Store Day will be releasing a new version of “The List” on June 1 via RecordStoreDay.com specifying the records that will come out on each day.
This rolling release is meant to assist record stores in generating revenue again. In their announcement, they said that this kind of release “gives the largest number of stores a chance to participate in the strangest Record Store Day ever, following their local mandates, and using the guidance of government and scientific experts to make these RSD Drop dates socially responsible as possible.”
Record Store Day’s Black Friday event is still scheduled for Nov. 27.
