The Strokes have announced a New Year’s Eve concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York - marking the band's first New Year's Eve show in two years.
As for openers, IDLES and Hinds will kick off the show on Friday, December 31. Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 is required to get into the venue. Tickets will go on sale Friday (October 29) at 10am ET. You can purchase yours here. A fan club pre-sale is currently taking place.
It is likely The Strokes will have songs from The New Abnormal on their setlist - an album which won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album earlier this year. At their last New Year’s Eve concert in 2019, The Strokes performed “Ode to the Mets,” which was later featured on the 2020 album.
As for other upcoming shows, the NYC band will be hitting the road next summer, having confirmed U.K. headline appearances at Lytham Festival in Lancashire and TRNSMT 2022. They’re also scheduled to perform at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound and Berlin’s Tempelhof Sounds. Finally, the band will be touring alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers during their highly-anticipated 2022 trek.
In other Strokes news, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has launched a wine seltzer called Jetway, Billboard first reported. The wine seltzer is five percent alcohol by volume and does not contain cane sugar or artificial flavors.
“Half the enjoyment of Jetway is its aroma—it takes you on a journey and makes you want to keep going back for another smell and taste,” Albert Hammond Jr. said in a statement. “The color is beautiful and the bubbles playful. I want Jetway to be the bridge to your next adventure, whatever that might be—hanging at home with friends, a night out or an exotic trip.”
As for frontman Julian Casablancas, the singer shared a parody of the cover art for Arctic Monkeys’ debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not earlier this month. “lolll – i always wanted to be in the Arctic Monkeys,” he captioned his post.
