Donald Glover's Atlanta is about to come to an end. Following a recent teaser, FX has now announced the premiere date for the upcoming fourth and final season: September 15 at 10pm on FX.
The premiere will consist of the season’s first two episodes, with the remaining eight episodes to air in the following weeks. In a new trailer for the show’s fourth season, we see the full cast: Glover, Lakeith Stanfield, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, and others in their respective roles on the series.
Atlanta’s fourth season comes just six months after the release of Season 3, which premiered on March 24. Regarding the end of Atlanta, Glover said, “Death is natural. When the conditions are right for something, they happen, and when the conditions aren’t right they don’t happen. Things start to get weird...you can’t do too much. The story was always supposed to be what it was and the story, it really was us.”
So what's next for Donald Glover in TV? According to sources close to Live365, the rap superstar is working on a new Amazon Prime series. Currently filming in New York City, the project is titled Mr. and Mrs. Smith. An adaptation of the 2005 flick starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, it stars Glover and Maya Erskine (PEN15, Obi-Wan Kenobi) as a spy couple who are both assigned to kill each other after learning they work for competing agencies.
Glover co-wrote the script with Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge and the Emmy-winning actress was originally supposed to take Erskine's role, but she dropped out of the project due to creative differences. Besides Glover and Erskine, Paul Dano, John Turturro, and Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) are attached to the cast. A release date for the series has not been set yet.
As for Glover's music career as Childish Gambino, the artist's last project was his 2020 album 3.15.20. In March, he joined Lil Wayne and Latto on the song "Sunshine."
