On Thursday (July 29), Nas announced he will be following his 2020 Grammy award-winning album King's Disease with a sequel: King's Disease II.
The new project is set to drop August 6 at midnight ET via Mass Appeal Records. Also on Thursday, Nas unveiled the album's cover art to fans, which is a self portrait of the rapper behind a bright orange-red backdrop. The original King's Disease was produced by Hit-Boy and co-executive produced by Gabriel “G Code” Zardes.
King's Disease II will be the 14th studio album from the influential rapper. The first King's Disease took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album at this year's Grammy Awards. 2021 marks the 25th anniversary since the 1996 release of his sophomore studio album, It Was Written. Accordingly, Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, released an expanded digital edition of the project with 16 tracks. Bonus tracks include "Silent Murder" and "Street Dreams."
Since the release of his 1994 debut Illmatic, Nas has released 25 Billboard Hot 100 songs, including two tracks that have peaked in the top 10. His albums I am..., Hip-Hop Is Dead, Life Is Good, and Untitled all peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Nas' most recent album, King's Disease, managed to peak at No. 5 on the chart in September.
In other Nas news, the rapper was one of the artists who helped break ground at the construction site of the future Universal Hip Hop Museum in May. Located in the South Bronx, the museum is scheduled to open its doors in 2023.
