Willow Smith is taking a nod from her mother's Wicked Wisdom past and helping revive the pop-punk era with "Transparent Soul." The new song was released in April, and on Friday (May 28) Smith shared an accompanying music video.
The video sees Smith at a dingy club, trying to run away from a silver figure that's following her. The backing drums for the song are offered by former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who also makes an appearance in the video.
Willow Smith previously released a visualizer for the track back in late April. "Transparent Soul" is the first single to follow up 2019's Willow. Smith wrote demos during the pandemic and began recording in the studio once it was safe. Her fifth album is expected to drop during the summer of this year.
Smith told Vulture the song came at an introspective time in her life and she compared her enthusiasm of mixing genres to “the colors of the rainbow available to me.”
“I’m so happy that I got to bring these two parts of myself together, this spiritual part of myself into this pop-punk angsty world that I wanted to create for the video," Smith shared with SPIN about the video. "I’m so honored and excited for you guys to see it.”
