After announcing their final shows together at Radio City Music Hall and performing the first one yesterday (August 3), friends Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga have announced their final collaborative album Love for Sale.
Per a statement, the album will specifically be Bennett's final project, as his family revealed his 2016 Alzheimer's diagnosis back in February of this year. In a piece in AARP Magazine, Bennett’s family revealed music has been vital to the singer’s health. His regular performances up until the pandemic helped keep him sharp, and during the COVID-19 lockdown he rehearsed at home with his longtime pianist Lee Musiker.
Bennett and Gaga began crafting Love for Sale after the singer's diagnosis. The sessions took place at Electric Lady Studios in NYC between 2018 and 2020. The album will follow their 2014 collaboration, Cheek to Cheek. While that album featured American standards penned by various artists, Love for Sale will exclusively feature tunes from the Cole Porter Songbook, sung as duets or solos.
Also yesterday, on Bennett's 95th birthday, the duo released a rendition of the standout Cole Porter track “I Get a Kick Out of You." It's got a classic New York piano solo in the beginning, then launches into a swinging, brassy groove that sounds fresh off The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel soundtrack. The song's music video is set to premiere on MTV on Friday (August 6) at 12pm ET.
Love for Sale will be released October 1 and is now available to pre-order. Fans can buy a standard version (10 tracks), as well as deluxe (12 tracks) and vinyl configurations. A collectible box set will be released as well.
Gaga and Bennett's second show at Radio City Music Hall will take place tomorrow, August 5. Tickets are still available here.
