Have you heard "The News"? After a five-year hiatus and months of teasing and touring, alternative rock band Paramore have finally dropped their sixth studio album today (February 10), This Is Why.
The ten-track record is the last Paramore will release under their current label, Atlantic. A few singles teased the album's release; the band dropped the title track as a single in 2022, released "The News" in December 2022, and shared their third single "C'est C’est Comme Ça" in January 2023. During a recent album release show at the Grand Ole Opry, the band performed a fourth single, "Running Out of Time," for the crowd.
“'This Is Why' was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea,” frontwoman Hayley Williams previously said of the album’s title track in a press release.
“What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last three or four years. You’d think after a global pandemic of f---ing biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something,” Williams said about the theme of the LP.
In an episode of her BBC Sounds podcast Everything is Emo, Williams cited which artists inspired the album, including Talking Heads and British acts such as Bloc Party and Foals. The last time Paramore released an album as a band was 2017’s After Laughter, which features songs like “Hard Times” and “Rose-Colored Boy.” Since then, Williams dropped her own solo album, Petals for Armor, in 2020 and Farro has unveiled a number of solo works under the moniker Halfnoise.
Now that This Is Why is out, Paramore's next move is to release a music video for "Running Out of Time." They also have an extensive world tour scheduled for this year, and will be playing at locations in South America, Europe, and North America. Remaining tickets can be found here.
