J. Cole has shared a new track from his highly-anticipated album The Off-Season.
The new song is called "i n t e r l u d e" and was produced by T-Minus and T. Parker. It will be released with the other tracks from The Off-Season on May 14. Cole said on Twitter he had thought about dropping the whole album all at once, but changed his mind. “Sometimes you gotta say f*** it tho," he wrote.
The Off-Season marks J. Cole's first solo studio album since 2018’s KOD. The album has been public knowledge since 2018, when J. Cole captioned the YouTube video for "Album of the Year (Freestyle)" with “The Off Season coming soon… All roads lead to The Fall Off.”
Fans thought the album to follow-up KOD would be titled The Fall Off, since the final song on KOD is titled "1985 (Intro To The Fall Off)." However, Cole shared a picture last year of a notepad that detailed "The Fall Off Era." It's a trilogy of albums: The Off-Season first, followed by a project called It’s A Boy, and concluding with The Fall Off.
In 2020, J. Cole released the singles “The Climb Back” and “Lion King on Ice.” Both are expected to appear either on The Off-Season, or somewhere in the trilogy.
